Our Fireplace Reveal (DIY) + Before and After Photos

Our first makeover reveal in our Vegas house is finally here, the FIREPLACE!!! When we moved to this house in August of 2019, we didn’t make changes right away. By the time we got accustomed to our new surrounding, got settled in and so on, a few months passed until we decided we were ready for our first DIY project.

It was February of 2020 when we decided the fireplace would be the perfect first DIY project. I had saved fireplace inspiration photos on my Pinterest board for sometime, so I already knew what style we were going for. As soon as my husband figured out all the technical components, we were ready to purchase all the parts and get the demolition started. During the process of demolition, the amount of layers we encountered in the old fireplace were so daunting and never-ending. We took out every type of material from that fireplace and mantel you can imagine.

For the tile, we went for a large format piece from Floor & Decor that way the base of the fireplace is in one piece and as seamless as possible. So once the first step of tiling the entire fireplace was complete, we then inserted the 36” electrical fireplace (we got this one).

Next step of the project was the most challenging I think, which was the mantel surround frame. I wanted a shaker style front and so my amazing and hands-on husband made that possible. I took full responsibility of sanding all the lumber pieces while he measured and cut.

Once all the wood pieces were installed, we did some final wood filler work, sanded once again, and it was ready for paint!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it to this day. I’ve been loving modern farmhouse style for quite sometime now. I think it’s simple, natural, classy, and because of it’s neutral tones, it allows for introducing accents in any color your heart desires.

Oh by the way, the change in the flooring happened months after (I will share that part of the house remodel soon).

Let me know if I’ve missed anything or if you have any questions or need links I haven’t shared. :)

Salpie
