Wicker Porch Loveseat Makeover

A couple of weeks ago I shared on Instagram about this small makeover project I was taking over and you guys voted to see the before and after (as well as a timelapse process which will be shared on IG). This loveseat was already at this new house on the porch when we moved in. It just needed some TLC and so I wanted to give it life and spray paint it.

So, with some spray paint, I gave this wicker furniture a makeover and it has become one of my favorite spots to sit with my laptop and drink my espresso coffee. Our backyard is still under progress of removing trees and making more space so we can have more room for our patio furniture. So having this special cozy spot has been really sweet.

STEPS TO THE MAKEOVER

  1. CLEAN

The loveseat was in great shape minus the normal wear and tear from the elements. So, before I spray painted, I just wiped it down with a clean damp cloth. You can hose it down if you’d like but make sure it’s dried out completely. You don’t want to proceed to step 2 with your furniture being damp.

  2. PAINT

Find the space for the paint job and be sure to cover the floor with some type of plastic or tarp. I used three cans of Rustoleum Spray Paint in Satin Espresso for two even coats. There are so many colors to choose from. I went with espresso because our patio furniture is espresso wicker, I wanted to make it part of that set—even though it’s on the other end of the house. In between the two coats, I let it try for about half hour. Then, the weather was nice so we left it in the backyard to dry completely until the next day.

  3. CUSHIONS

I am still in search for a white/ivory loveseat cushion. It’s been difficult finding the right size. But, that’s all you really need to finish off the project. Oh, and maybe a couple of decorative pillows. I even thought of making a custom cushion myself. So, if that ever happens, I will share the how-to. Until then, I used our patio furniture cushions for the sake of the photos.

I hope this was helpful. There is really not much to it. It’s a very quick and simple DIY that will transform a lifeless piece of furniture into something more like new and appealing.
